Western Marketing, Inc., has been a distributor of petroleum products for over 60 years. Our company was founded in Abilene, Texas, and expanded into Oklahoma, Kansas, Arkansas, New Mexico, Colorado and Louisiana to supply products to a growing customer base. Founded in 1953, WMI is a leading regional supplier of bulk and packaged lubricants to customers utilizing internal combustion engines primarily for transportation, agriculture, and energy pumping and gathering systems.
Originally founded by the W. P. Wright family, Western Marketing, Inc., was purchased in 1990 by local Abilene entrepreneurs John R. Thacker and Richard N. Hasten, who operated it for two decades. In 2010, two Dallas-based private equity organizations, Wingate Partners and CrimStone Partners, acquired WMI and have continued the company’s tradition of expanding its distribution facilities, offering new products, and investing in its delivery fleet.
Western Marketing strives to stay ahead of its customers’ needs. Several years ago, diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) was launched, and Western Marketing became the largest DEF distributor in North America for Old World Industries with its BlueDEF™ product. In 2010, WMI’s geographic footprint was extended into East Texas to support existing and new-customers’ demand for lubricants and coolants/antifreeze. The company also continues its tradition of maintaining a modern delivery fleet.
Western Marketing has contracts to supply products from Chevron, Shell, CITGO, Phillips 66, Pennzoil, Castrol, Preferred Choice, Old World Industries and others. WMI also markets a wide variety of automotive- and engine-related accessories. WMI’s line of stocked accessories includes more than 3,000 consumable goods, such as packaged oil, filters and wiper blades, and WMI is one of the most comprehensive distributors across the region. Oil-related equipment, including bulk-oil storage tanks and pumps, are also available from WMI.
From its headquarters in Abilene, Texas, Western Marketing operates through seven divisions based in Abilene, Monahans, Ft. Worth, Lubbock, Amarillo and Longview, Texas as well as Stroud, Oklahoma. Each division serves its neighboring markets from company-owned warehouse and bulk-oil facilities supported by local teams specializing in sales, customer service and delivery. Products are supplied to various commercial operations, such as natural gas processing plants, large trucking fleets, agriculture operations, car dealerships and selected wholesale resellers. The company operates a modern fleet of box vans and bobtail trucks, employing about 130 employees. Bulk tank farms consist of more than 450 separate tanks totaling in excess of three million gallons of lubricant capacity.
